Massa: "Thank you, Ferrari, for this wonderful present "

Mugello, 16 December 2009 – The sun was back at the Mugello circuit, enabling Felipe Massa to complete his special test, which started yesterday with a F2007 provided by the Maranello’s F1 Clienti department. After his long absence from racing, due to his terrible accident last July during the Qualifying for the Hungarian GP and a taste at Fiorano and Mugello yesterday, the Brazilian driver was back to accomplish his desire to drive a Formula 1 single-seater before the end of the year, just two weeks after his first son Felipinho was born. Felipe drove around 60 laps on his second day here on board of the Scuderia Ferrari single-seater, which won the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Titles in the 2007 season, fitted with exposition tyres for the occasion. Felipe was satisfied by today’s outcome and said, before he flew back to Brazil, to www.ferrari.com: "Although I was behind the wheel of a completely different car compared to the one for next year, I had a perfect feeling, which gives me hope for the upcoming season. I was very quick immediately and nothing seems to have changed in my driving style compared to before the accident. I want to thank Ferrari for this present, which, together with my son, makes this Christmas even more special.”

First laps for Massa in Mugello

Maranello, 15 December 2009 – Felipe Massa had to wait until this afternoon for his very special Christmas present. The Brazilian driver wanted to get back behind the wheel of a Formula 1 single-seater before the end of the year and took the opportunity of his visit to Maranello for the traditional Christmas events over the weekend to accomplish his desire. The opportunity was supported by Ferrari’s Corse Clienti department, which provided Felipe with a F2007, the car, which won the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Titles two years ago, fitted with exposition tyres for the occasion.

The weather conditions at the “Autodromo del Mugello” enabled the Brazilian driver to go onto the track only in the afternoon.

Felipe drove about 30 laps before he had to stop when it became dark: “I’m happy that I could get into this car and it’s always a pleasure driving on a track like Mugello. Everything went well: it’s a pity that I could only drive in the afternoon. Let’s hope I can be back tomorrow!”

In fact Felipe will also be in Mugello on Wednesday before he goes back to Brazil, where the little Felipinho and mother Raffaela are waiting for him.

Montezemolo: “I haven’t spoken to Schumacher”

Maranello, 14 December 2009 – These days Michael Schumacher and his possible return to racing are being discussed a lot. On this subject Ferrari Chairman Luca di Montezemolo said at the sidelines of an interview with Reuters: “I still haven’t spoken to Schumacher, therefore I can’t say a lot about his future. He is a dear friend, but he’s not a member of the team. Naturally, if he decided to take another path, logically regarding our agreement this wouldn’t be valid anymore: you can’t continue working with us and for one of our competitors at the same time.”

Christmas with the circus at Maranello

Maranello, 13 December – Unusual guests today at the Fiorano Track: instead of the Prancing Horse cars, centre stage were the circus performers and animals, brought to Maranello to celebrate Christmas with all the Ferrari employees and their families. President Luca di Montezemolo and Team Principal of the Gestione Sportiva, Stefano Domenicali were also on hand to see three rather special Father Christmases, namely Felipe Massa, Luca Badoer and Marc Gene.

“It’s the first time I’ve dressed up as Father Christmas,” said Felipe. “It’s nice to be here with so many children. I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone peace, health and goodwill and for those of us who work for Ferrari, obviously, my wish is that we get back to our winning ways so that we can fight for the world championship.”

With the Telethon television marathon programme running at the same time, Felipe also invited everyone to do their bit to support medical research into genetic illnesses: “Everyone of us can do something, as every little bit helps: through your bank, or with a credit card, or even easier, by sending an SMS (in Italy) to 48548. Beating genetic diseases is important for all of us.”

A special Christmas present for Felipe Massa

Maranello, 13 December – This has been an unbelievable year for Felipe Massa, who has already had a great present in the birth of his son, Felipinho, but he asked Ferrari to also give him a present. In the next few days, the Brazilian will be back on a race track at the Mugello circuit to drive a Formula 1 car: but it won’t be the F60, which he last drove at Valencia at the World Finals. Instead, he will drive an F2007, fitted with demonstration run tyres, with back-up from the Corse Clienti Department. The exact date for Felipe to do this has not yet been fixed, as the weather forecast for the Mugello area is very unsettled and it definitely will not happen tomorrow. “I wanted to jump into a Formula 1 car before the end of the year, so I made the most of being in Maranello to do it,” said Felipe. “I would like to thank Ferrari for having giving me this present.”

Massa gratitude for Ferrari’s heartfelt support

Maranello, 12 December 2009 – It will be a special Christmas for Felipe Massa, his first as a father. Felipe arrived in Maranello yesterday evening to join the team for the traditional exchange of good wishes which precede the end of year festivities and he chose this occasion to address everyone in the Gestione Sportiva. “I want to thank each one of you for your support after the accident,” said Felipe. “What happened to me this year was unbelievable and I took so much strength from you to recover as quickly as possible. The heartfelt warmth I felt from Ferrari is something I will never ever forget as long as I live. I assure you that my determination to get back on track and to win has never been this strong!”

Thanks Gilles!

Maranello, 12 December 2009 – The Gestione Sportiva’s Christmas lunch was also the moment to make a presentation to someone who has been part of the Scuderia for the past fifteen years, Gilles Simon. The French engineer held the position of head of Engine Design from 1994 to 2006, after which he was in charge of the whole Engine Department. This period saw the Maranello V10 and V8 engines win six Drivers’ titles and eight Constructors’, along with 106 Formula 1 Grand Prix victories. “I wish to thank this engineer for all he has done, winning so much with us, a man of class and a good person,” said Montezemolo as he presented Simon with an example of the 056 engine which took the Constructors’ title in the F2008.”
